What we collect and why
We process personal data under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. The table below sets out what we collect through this website and the lawful basis for each.

If you go on to instruct us, we will process a great deal more information about you in order to act in your matter. That processing is explained in the client care information we give you when we open your file, and it is not governed by this website policy.
Cookies and analytics
A cookie is a small file stored on your device when you visit a website. Some of what we store sits in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, but it works the same way and we treat it the same.
Only strictly necessary storage is set when you arrive. Analytics is off until you switch it on. We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and move around the site. That data is not anonymous: it includes a pseudonymous identifier which is personal data, and Google processes it as our processor.
You can review each cookie we set, and change or withdraw your consent, using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent stops any further collection; it does not delete data already collected, which you can ask us about separately.
When we share your data
- With service providers who process data on our behalf, such as our IT and email providers, under contracts which hold them to the standards required by Art. 28 of the UK GDPR.
- With third parties you have asked or authorised us to deal with.
- Where we are required to, by a court, a regulator, or by law, including our obligations under the money laundering regulations.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
Where data is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we rely on adequacy regulations where they exist, and otherwise on appropriate safeguards under Art. 46 of the UK GDPR.
How long we keep it
- Website enquiries that do not become a matter
- Up to twelve months from your last contact with us, so that we can pick up the thread if you come back to us.
- Client files
- Six years from the conclusion of your matter, unless we have agreed something different with you or we are required to keep them for longer.
- Records of your cookie consent
- Twelve months, which is also when we will ask you again.
- Marketing consent
- Until you withdraw it, and reviewed at least every three years.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the following rights over your personal data. Most are not absolute, and some are limited where we hold information subject to legal professional privilege or where we are required to keep it.
- Access. You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification. You can ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure. You can ask us to delete data, where we have no continuing reason to hold it.
- Restriction. You can ask us to limit how we use your data while a question about it is resolved.
- Objection. You can object to processing we carry out under legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time. An objection to direct marketing is absolute and we will always act on it.
- Portability. Where we process data by automated means on the basis of consent or a contract, you can ask for it in a portable format.
- Withdrawal of consent. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. That does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, write to us at [email protected]. We will respond within one month. Exercising some rights, in particular erasure, may limit our ability to act for you.
Complaining to the regulator
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so that we have the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at any time.
